our pedigree ayrshire herd
our farm - Raising Cattle Responsibly Since 1971
The Hunnington story started in 1955 when Chris window began working at Lord Plumb’s Southfields herd, near Coleshill, Birmingham. Chris worked for Lord Plumb for 16 years becoming herdsman, until Chris and his wife Hazel got the chance of moving to their own farm, Horsepool Farm. Chris & Hazel arrived in Hunnington with 6 young cows purchased from the Southfields herd. Horsepool farm at the time was derelict, with no functional farm buildings or milking parlour. Chris milked by torch light with a portable milking machine at this time. Chris and Hazel worked hard over the next few years to build the farm buildings you can see today, most of these buildings had the foundations dug by hand with pick axe by Chris with Hazel manning the wheel barrow.
Hazel and Chris had two daughters, Karen and Lisa. Karen became a nurse and Lisa followed Dad into the family farm. Lisa shared the same passion for the Ayrshire cow as her father and became equally dedicated and successful as her father in progressing the Hunnington Ayrshire Herd to its international recognition.
The Hunnington Ayrshire Herd is entirely made up of pedigree Ayrshire cattle. The national classification system that grades cattle has classified all the cows at 60% or above. The Hunnington Herd has won numerous national titles and competitions earning international recognition and respect.
